Improve your fly casting with Lessons from a qualified casting instructor with Twig and Stream in Melbourne and Buxton. Our casting lessons focus on working with you and your style; working on casts that help you catch fish. Lessons can be shared by up to 4 people . Please make sure you let us know how many people will be attending. In person casting lessons are held in and around Carlton and Fairfield, in Melbourne, or on stream near Buxton, Victoria.

Guided Fly Fishing

Twig & Stream’s fly fishing guides operate within 90 minutes of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Meet us on location or we can arrange transfers to and from the city centre. Your fly fishing guide will take you on adventure tailored to your requirements; you can fish for wild brown and rainbow trout in a variety of waters: from pristine mountain streams to small meandering lowland rivers. Your guide has over 25 years continuous fly-fishing experience to draw upon, knows the local waters, and is a qualified casting instructor.

On Stream Learn to Fly Fish Experience

Located 90 minutes from Melbourne, our Learn to Fly Fish on Stream gets you started on your fly fishing journey. You benefit from the skills of qualified casting instructor, and their 20+ years fishing experience, to give you the best chance for an enjoyable and successful start to your fly fishing journey. It all takes place on location on a local trout stream. Our Learn to Fly Fish experience includes: 90 minute casting lesson On stream tuition with our experienced instructor ( 4 hrs for half day, 7.5 hrs for full day option) Full Day option includes lunch. Snacks and refreshments Use of all equipment and waders. The Learn to Fly Fish on Stream experience commences with a beginner’s fly casting lesson prior to the trip (or on the day on location) . You will learn about the fly fishing equipment, the basic dynamics of casting. By the time we head to the river you will be casting well enough to focus on fishing. We then spend the remaining time with rod in hand on the river learning various techniques (according to the conditions) to give you he best chance to catch fish.

Improve Your Fly Fishing On-Stream Course

For those wanting to take their fly-fishing to the next level, we run an on-stream half-day fly fishing course by appointment to suit you at any time during the fishing season. Maybe: You would like to catch more fish, more often You don’t fish regularly so your not improving as quickly as you like You would like to sharpen your skills If you want to improve your enjoyment and success rates, or deepen your and fly fishing and casting skills this is the course for you. Based in Yarra Ranges, 90 minutes from Melbourne, our on-stream course will show you some of the important extras that can improve your enjoyment and success on the water. Learn from our 20+ years of experience. We tailor the actual activities to the participants relative level of skill and experience. Course is limited to two participants. Course covers: Reading the water and identifying trout lies (where are they?) Presenting the fly and managing drag (Casting and drifting the fly to the trout in a natural way) Different casts and different approaches for different situations Fishing the nymph, fishing the dry fly Fly selection – Insects and how to match them Knots and leader set-up Casting need a tune up? We can help with that too. On Stream Accompanied Tuition

For a more relaxed day, you can try on stream accompanied tuition. This is a more economical option, and is ideal for those who do not wish to fish hard all day, and would like to learn through doing and observing the guide demonstrating fishing techniques. Your guide shares some of their favourite water; your guide will encourage you to fish the best of the water, and will cast to demonstrate alternate techniques some of the time to help improve your stream craft, making sure you get the most out of the day. We balance between fishing and tuition to suit your needs and preferences.
