Our Staff

Austin Harris
Austin founded Science Guyz in 2010 after recognizing a demand for organic chemistry tutors in Athens that was not being met. Wielding a PhD in chemistry and later a law degree, both from the University of Georgia, he went about molding the company into a successful venture and an asset for the academic community in Athens. Throughout the evolution of Science Guyz, Austin has kept steadfast focus on making sure that the company is student-centered before anything else. Though he possesses many skills, it has been Harris' natural drive as a motivational educator that has helped countless undergrads navigate their paths towards academic success.
Banks Torgerson
Banks graduated from the University of Georgia in May 2019 with his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Bachelor of Science in Psychology. He is currently applying to medical schools. As an undergraduate, Banks served as a student TA in the Principles of Biology sequence for three semesters and was thus exposed to the teaching styles of multiple professors. Banks also conducted undergraduate research in Biology education, served as a Franklin College Student Ambassador, represented the Franklin College of Arts & Sciences at various events throughout the university, and participated as a member of the Pi Kappa Beta honor society. He loves helping students develop problem-solving skills that are required to be successful in STEM classes.
Ben Hultquist
Ben is a third year Biology major at the University of Georgia. He plans to attend medical school after graduation. Ben does undergraduate research in STEM education and uses this background to help students achieve their goals in Chemistry. When not in class, Ben spends his time volunteering at various organizations in the Athens area, including Piedmont Athens Regional, hospice care, and the Thomas Lay After School Program.
Jacob Wilson
Jacob graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Physics, and spent the 2018-19 academic year teaching AP (advanced placement) physics to high school students in Rockdale County, Georgia. Jacob loves tutoring, researching, and talking with others about physics and mathematics. He notes that his academic interests do not entirely define him, for he is passionate about nature, mediums of expression (film, photography, writing), and gluten-free cookies, with which he spends much of his time. Jacob currently works as a tutor and content developer with Science Guyz, and is a mathematics student at the University of Georgia. He aims to begin graduate studies in Scientific Computation in the fall of 2020.
James Barksdale
James is a senior at UGA pursuing Bachelors of Science Education. In December he will be a certified Secondary Science teacher. He has been tutoring high school and college students for 2 years in physics. Outside of Science Guyz, James has completed a physics student teaching internship at North Oconee High School, and a practicum placement at Oconee County High School. James has also worked on head staff at Camp Covenant, is certified in physics by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and hopes to make an impact on the Georgia education system.
Megan McArthur
Megan McArthur Head GenChem Tutor General Chemistry 1211 and 1212 Megan is a fourth year Biology major at The University of Georgia who is currently applying to medical school. She has been on the Dean's List every semester since beginning her studies at UGA. Megan has conducted research in the biochemistry department, where she focused on using stem cells to mitigate the effects of Salt and Pepper Syndrome, and has also volunteered at both St. Mary's Hospital and the Miranda Faith Foundation, the latter of which is a Christ-centered organization that provides backpacks full of school supplies to underprivileged children. Megan looks forward to using her past tutoring experience and deep content knowledge to help other UGA students excel in their science courses.
Olivia Craig
Olivia is a fourth year Genetics major at The University of Georgia. She has participated in a wide range of interdisciplinary research working on projects involving biochemistry, microbiology, and genetics, and has since decided to apply to medical school in order to pursue a career in women’s healthcare. Olivia comes to ScienceGuyz after performing at the tops of both of her Organic Chemistry classes and hopes to share her knowledge with other students in the class.
Sushi Parsa
Soroosh (Sushi) Parsa General Chemistry 1211 and 1212 Soroosh graduated from the University of Georgia in May 2019 with his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology. As an undergraduate student, he conducted research for two years in the field of Protein Crystallography. Soroosh also served as Treasurer of the Persian Student Union, was the Lead Transfer Ambassador for the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, and served as part of the Risk Management Committee as a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Presently, Soroosh is applying to medical schools. He became a Chemistry tutor to motivate students and show them that they are capable of mastering the material.
Tristin Nguyen-Tu
Tristin is a fourth year Computer Science major and Spanish minor at the University of Georgia. Academically, he has received Dean’s List and Presidential Scholar recognition as part of the Honors Program. Tristin took Organic Chemistry during his freshman year, when he was a Biochemistry major, which forced him to adapt quickly to the rigorous demands of high level science courses. He now aims to pass on these acquired skills and techniques for learning to other students, for their own successes. Outside of class, Tristin is a classical and jazz piano accompanist at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, as well as an executive board member of Zeta Beta Tau fraternity.
