Sometimes surgery patients will experience lumpiness in areas where liposuction was done. This is normal, and is caused by lymph and trauma from the surgical instrument that is used under the skin to extract the fatty tissue. The tunnels and channels which are created by the surgical instrument will fill with fluid and become swollen with both fluid and left-over fat. This fluid and left-over fat tends to harden between one week and three weeks after surgery. Post-Lipo Massage speeds the healing process by gently manipulating lymph back into lymph passages to be excreted by the kidneys, and by breaking up hardened tissue to assist in the prevention of fibrosis and help the tissue heal and regain its supple texture.
By applying several methods, lymphatic ports are opened to begin the draining process. Feather like strokes are then administered to move fluid and metabolic waste through the lymph channels. No deep, aggressive pressure or strokes are used during the session. Depending on your stage of healing other techniques are applied to diminished fibrous adhesion's and to relax ischemic muscles.
This procedure works well and has been demonstrated to show positive results. Most surgery patients need four to six Post-Lipo Massage treatments to remove most of the excess lymph and scar tissue, but will feel relief from swelling after just one session.
Without Post-Lipo Massage after liposuction surgery, there is a risk of scar tissue becoming what is known as fibrosis, a permanent hardening of the tissue. Post-Lipo Massage is the most effective way to ensure that you will achieve the best results possible from your surgery.
Every surgery patient is different, and most doctors advise their patients to begin their Post-Lipo Massage treatments after the fourth or fifth day post-surgery to obtain the best and fastest results.
Your drains/tubes must be removed. You cannot be bleeding or oozing fluids from incisions. Due to liability and health concerns, the massage therapist cannot push lymph or fluids out of liposuction drainage tubes or incisions. It is not only unsanitary but can lead to infection and blood clotting in some individuals. This places the therapist at risk for possible cross contamination or disease. Incisions that are not yet healed must be covered with a gause or band aid.
