Deep Tissue Massage
A deep tissue massage is performed by softening superficial muscles to access the deeper, underlying muscles and applying a firm to very firm pressure stroke through the entire length of the muscle being addressed. Of course, this massage and its pressure is performed to the comfort and pain tolerance of the client. I tell all of my clients, "I do not want to take you above your pain level of 7! So I encourage you to communicate to me when the pressure is approaching that limit." The idea is not to hurt you but to relieve the tension and toxin that have been trapped in those deeper muscles. This massage can be quite painful without your communication. This type of massage can not be performed comfortably throughout the entire body in 60 minutes, and it's recommended that this type of massage not be performed throughout the entire body in one session. Due to time constraints, deep tissue strokes are performed on certain areas with the rest of the body receiving trigger point therapy or Swedish techniques.
